+ -1 moreQuite frankly, I would have expected much better from a business identified as “Best in Tallahassee”. Keith Lawson Services dispatched an estimator on 11/13/2020 for a possible job consisting of replacement of two heat pumps and new duct work. Before departing from our meeting, the estimator confirmed my e-mail address and assured me that I’d get his written estimate soon. To date, 24 days and THREE phone calls later (11/20, 11/24 & 12/4), I still don’t have an estimate. The service manager has apparently been unavailable to take my last two phone calls and I’ve yet to receive an e-mail, text, or return phone call. My first attempt at using KLS since moving to Tallahassee has been a disappointing one to say the least.

+ -1 moreShortly following a "preventative" maintenance visit system started to malfunction, shorted out thermostat (x2). KLM finally claimed there was a short in the wiring that was likely caused by rodents. When they came to rerun the wiring they found zero evidence of any rodent involvement - then claimed wires coming from house to outside unit showed damage from a weed-eater. However there is no foliage growth in this area - it is mulched with stone. This area is right where the technician would be working during the PM. KLM management would not take any responsibility. The fact that I have been a Red Carpet customer for aprox 4 years didn't seem to mean much at all.

We will have to use them in the future with the work they have done now that we are in another part of town. They satisfy us.

+ -1 moreWe had prior experience with them so we used them before in another house because they serviced the unit brand that was in that house. So we have used them again. There is probably somebody less expensive, but I did not compare prices on that particular service. We were satisfied with the price. They were just about on time; it was a day-long job. Two fellows showed up to do the job. Everything is working fine.
Description of Work: We have used Keith Lawson Services for heating and air conditioning. They were last here working on our heating system. We have a split gas heat electric cool system and the gas burner was starting to go. The whole system is about 18 years old. We decided to re;place the system so they installed a whole new heating and air conditioning system.

+ -1 moreThe tech came early in the appointment window, and was courteous and knowledgeable. He quickly diagnosed the problem on the heat issue and ndash; the and lsquo;hard start kit' for the heat motor needed replacement and ndash; he showed it to me, and it looked ready to MELT! I agreed to the replacement, and then he also checked the filter, and did the remaining routine diagnostic checks on the integral parts, per the contract. Within 20 minutes, the system was fully functional, and after he left I looked outside and saw that he completely cleaned the exterior of the (large) unit, and it looked brand new. As for the uptake vent issue, the technician took one look at it and confirmed it was not mold, or anything hazardous and ndash; and recommended a local company that professionally cleans ductwork for a reasonable price. He pointed out that if this much dust was covering the uptake vents, I probably needed to have the vents brining the air up INTO the house cleaned as well! I was very relieved it wasn't mold and ndash; but also impressed with his resourcefulness in suggesting who might handle the work for me. The hard start kit price was $334; the HEPA filter was $39; I received a $150 and lsquo;multi-repair' discount on the invoice and ndash; as per the contract and ndash; and the total invoice was $205.97. I received my itemized paid invoice by email while he was still in my driveway.
Description of Work: Called them on a Friday (Oct 31) for a service call because our heat system wasn't working when we turned it on for the first time at the first real cold snap. We have a Red Carpet service contract, which covers a bi-annual preventative maintenance service in Spring, for the AC and in Fall, for the heat, and 10% off all repairs within the contract period. Red Carpet also give you priority in the response time, but since we don't rely on the heat very much until it gets really cold, I told them it was not an emergency if they would just put us on the list for early in the week. Was told they would be there Tuesday afternoon between 12 and 3, and they would call me 30 minutes out, as usual, to make sure I was home and coordinate with me if I was not. I had also requested on the job ticket that the technician inspect and advise me on another situation – the week before I had removed an old grill cover in our hallway for one of three air uptake vents. We just had new wood floors put in, and the walls repainted, and I wanted to update the grill cover to blend in better with the fresh paint. When I removed the old one, I was horrified to find about 3 inches of something that was either dust/dirt or possibly mold, encasing the area around the inside of the cover, and continuing down into the duct leading to the crawlspace. I had superficially cleaned off the opening so I could put the new grate on, but wanted a consult about what the substance was, and whether KL should clean these ducts (if it was hazardous material) or if I could do it myself.

+ 1 moreThey gave me a quote. Came out to my house. Said I'd have a small pipe at hip height on the front of my house that could easily be hid with a shrub. Technician came to install and the pipe bece a six inch diameter pipe sticking six inches out from my house and it's well over my husbands head. Can't hide behind a shrub. It's hideous. And it's sticking out of the front of my house. they should have run it to the roof. But the sales guy told me I could easily hide the small pipe. Nope! Also I called to find out how long installation would take that day. No one called or texted back. Then it was time for inspection. They gave me one day's notice. I told them no I needed more notice to arrange to be out of the office. Then they showed up on the wrong day for that. Very disappointed. I don't recommend. Price was fair though.

He said I could do this or I could do this, this will cost this much, I think we should try this first because it's less expensive, if it works I don't have to do the other. As it turned out, it did work and so, he didn't have to do the complete rooting. He was extremely honest and very polite. He was really prompt and came in the same day. I was extremely delighted with his service.

About a 18 months ago, it was not working correctly so a repairman came out and told us that the fan was installed incorrectly, it was put on backwards. The serviceman told me that I would not be charged for the repair because this was their fault. Well, the same AC has problems again, it is not cooling, the lines are freezing up. I called Lawsons to make a repair call and they told me they would not come out because we owed a past due amount of $187.00. I told them we were not supposed to be charged and told them the whole account of what happened. They still would not service me. I feel this is very unprofessional and would not recommend them at all to anyone. I'm very unhappy.

We actually had a leak around the rail that's fastened to the wall. There's a shower behind it. I was very satisfied. They were diligent. They showed up when they said they were coming. They spent some time here trying to track the problem. They're very thorough. They didn't charge us anything.

There was one little flaw, but they came in and did something with the hot water heater and then when he put the cover back on the hot water heater it did no longer produce hot water so they came out that night and made it right, so I will give them credit for that. It was a honest mistake what I had done. He just accidentally didn't push a button it was just one little button so it wasn't anything about the repair, it was more about just kind of forgotten to do something. Everything was fine and it was for a house I was selling. This week they are coming back to a house that I just bought and they are going to dispose garbage out for me. They were great and very nice. I would use them again.

You pay something up front and then it is a percentage off when you call them in. They did quite a bit. Usually they have someone available pretty quickly. They do give you advance notice before they come, so if you're not home you can get home. They are courteous and very well informed and knowledgeable as to what they are doing. They are clean. They are here when they say they are going to be.

+ -1 moreThey did a good job but we thought they overcharged. They are a fairly big plumbing company. The hot water system itself, because of city ordinances and we have so many windows in the back of the house, and they had to put it in an area where they wouldn't be within 6 feet of a window, so they had to put it on the side of the house which is the solid brick. So they had to route the water farther so there were more pipes and everything but still. Then we had to dig it. We called them because we had a leak way down under the ground in the front yard and they had to dig it up but we still feel that it was overpriced. They have something they call job pricing. They don't charge by the hour. They'll give you, I guess what they think is the maximum amount of time it is going to take and even if it doesn't take them that much time they still charge you that. Like they were here after we had that done and we had a leak and it turned out to be a hot water pipe. They estimated that they were going to have to dig out a bunch of concrete and a bunch of stuff and they said it was going to take all day and it was going to cost something like $800. Well, they sent 2 guys over and they figured out how to reroute the pipe, cut off that hot water pipe and put a new segment in and they were here an hour and a half and they still wanted to charge us $800. We talked them down to about $350. They do good work, they are just high priced.
